Filezilla and Ampp - total newbie question

Hi,
Just to confirm i understand the basics: is the following correct?

The filezilla app on XAMPP is server side - it is only there to enable the remote updating / transfer of files from my own computer (presumably I would have to leave my computer on
and have Xampp / Filezilla running )?

To use FTP to update or upload a website/files from my computer's htdocs to a web hosting service, I download an ftp client (such as Filezilla) independently and any web hoster will have their own ftp server available for Filezilla client to connect to?
