Really noob basic question about installing

All I want to do is to be able to test PHP forms on webpages I create locally for a college class. I'm installing this simply to test php script-based forms on HTML5 webpages locally so that I do not need to upload them to the student server to see if they work for a college class (because that is very time-consuming). Do I just install this like any other program onto my Windows 10 PC, or do I need to create a VM for it? Are there any security issues I should be aware of if I install this to my primary PC on Windows 10? My textbook example said this was the program to install to do this, so here I am. I know nothing about anything. Help?

Simply install it to your WIndows (i.e. follow the advice and put it to c:/xampp, do NOT install it to the Programs folder and neither to the Desktop or so).
