cURL Error(6): Could not resolve host: localhost.

Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

cURL Error(6): Could not resolve host: localhost.

Postby buzztone » 22. December 2016 01:37

Until recently I was able to use InfiniteWP (https://infinitewp.com/) on a local XAMPP install.

No longer - I am getting the following error:

cURL Error(6): Could not resolve host: localhost.
Please contact your host. They should be able to help you out with this.

If checked PHPInfo and confirmed that CURL is enabled on my local XAMPP install.

I contacted InfiniteWP support and they suggested:

Have you enabled any firewall policies on your local server? I suspect your firewall is not allowing your cURL to connect to DNS.

Is this possible? How can I check this?

I have no idea, this is a Windows issue and you should ask in a WIndows forum. There seems to be a problem with your Net environment, maybe youre net socket is corrupted and seems to be resetted. Google for "winsock reset" and follow the instructions.

You may also simply try to run a "ping localhost" in a terminal, only to see if localhost is known in your Network.

I have no ideas anymore, everything looks OK, but i dont know that InfiniteWP is and what it is doing. Does not look as if Xampp has any problem.

The key part of my question is:

If you or others are able to give me more information on any firewall policies enabled by XAMMP, that would help me get a further response from InfiniteWP support. I suspect that XAMMP may not have any firewall policies enabled but I would like to confirm this.

Of course NOT, Xampp does not deliver ANY firewall or similar. As you know, Xampp is a distribution of Apache, MySQL (MariaDB), PHP, Perl, a FTP server, on Windows a Email Server (Mercury). None of them is a firewall or similar. Xampp also does NOT configure any OS specific firewalls. None, nothing, de nada.
