Can’t select database after reinstall xampp

hi ..
my name is mike im kind of new at this ..so i appreciate any help.
i started to work on a new site [localhost]then after a month i had a problem with the xampp control panel so i reinstall it .
i did a copy of the htdocs folder and the wordpress site folder.. so after the installation i copy them back to the new xampp folder
the thing is i get this "Can’t select database" and i dont know how to conect them back again !

Hope you made a backup if the entire xampp folder. Just note that the control panel is only an "add-on" component. You don't need to reinstall the full package just for the control panel.

Thats not sufficient, did you backup the most important data folder of MySQL?

HI...i didnt know its going to effect this folders so no i didnt !
but ..i found older backup of the entire xampp folder so i copy it instead of the new one
and thank god it works great ..
i just have a few extra hours to rework on the site to catch up .
another lesson in life (:
what backups should i do instead of copy all the xampp folder ?

None. The XAMPP folder and all the subfolders should contain everything unless you deliberately created something outside that folder.
