Hello folks--been trying to get rid of this error since early yesterday. It's running my bp sky-high. Need some help.
I am running Windows 10. Have disabled all sql server services. changed config port to 8080.
Just keep getting the HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found. I've played around with php before but do not recall it being this difficult to configure. Need some help please?

This was for your "bp sky-high", now please give us a usable explanation - you are far from it.

Where (which file, which lines) did you change "config port to 8080"? And why did you so?

What do you enter into your browser? Which file do you like to run (full pathname please)?

DId you install Xampp (even this is not clear!)? Which version? Where did you install it?

What is the fully qualified error message, you receive?

Please answer all questions carefully and completely, if not, we cannot help you.

Here is the actual wording:

Object not found!
The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again.
If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
Error 404
localhost
Apache/2.4.23 (Win32) OpenSSL/1.0.2h PHP/7.0.13

Here are the details:

Windows 10
Microsoft Edge Browser (have also tried other Browsers, same above error message)
XAMPP Control Panel V3.2.2
Installed Directory: c:/xampp/
Apache Ports: 80, 443 running
MySQL Ports: 3306 running

I set a password, yet the login page never appears for me to login; it goes directly to http://localhost/phpmyadmin
then when I type in my web pages (code in PHP) example: http://localhost/index.php; it goes directly to http://localhost/dashboard
My web pages refuse to load and the server gives me the above Error 404 message

I have changed the relative path and absolute path several times and that does not work; gives the same above Error 404 message
Searched my computer for driver to update it and it is running a current, working driver

If you need additional details, please let me know! Thank goodness for you and this forum! :!:

is there a ".htaccess" file in root directory? (c:\xampp\htdocs\.htaccess)
Maybe if there is one, it redirects you to the dash folder. Just rename it for a test (NOT starting with ".ht".

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes - I DO NEED ADDITIONAL DETAILS AND I ALREADY TOLD ABOUT THAT. O MY GOD, IF YOU DO NOT ANSWER AGAIN FULLY QUALIFIED, YOU MAY SEARCH FOR HELP SOMEWHERE ELSE. ONCE AGAIN (third time and definately last time!!) THE MOST MOST MOST MOST MOST MOST MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS:

What do you enter into your browser? Which file do you like to run (full pathname please)?

Object Not Found! Error 404

Your Question - What do I enter into my browser? Answer: http://localhost/index.php
Your Question - Which file do I run? Answer: http://localhost/index.php and several variations of http://localhost:80/index.php; http://localhost/index.html (to redirect) . . .

I told you all these details in my post. I think my post is clearly written, so that anyone could read it and get it. I think some of the answers are not clearly written or incompletely written so that we never get the full instructions on how to fix the problem.

Thanks Willit for giving me some kind of clue on how to fix the popular Error 404, page not found.

Yes, I have the .htaccess file in the root directory. I have removed the .htaccess file and added it to see if that would fix it (did not work)
Now, I will try your idea to rename it and see where will it redirect to.

I wish we did not have to spend this much time on configuring it, troubleshooting it . . . you know what I mean?

Ok.

Again WRONG Answer. I did NOT ask for the URL (what is localhost/index.php), I asked for the PATH of that file (i.e. c:/xampp/htdocs/index.php or similar). Last try as I said, I am out. Good luck!

Nobbie, "Shame on you!" You don't know the answer or how to fix the problem or you would have done so. You sound miserable; something is wrong with you! Why are you on this forum? Please "Quit" you don't belong here! You write as if you are a bad person with a bad attitude! Please tell us, you are not being paid to answer troubleshooting questions from this forum? You don't deserve to be paid! So far, what I have to figure out (how to get Xampp to work), I did NOT learn a thing from Apache Friends Support Forum; I learned from YouTube. How can you improve?

Hi WebDeveloper,

As long as we don't know the basic information Nobbie requested from you it is impossible to help you with this problem.
The only analysis we can made is that you did something unexpected wrong.

best wishes,
Altrea
