How to upgrade to the new release of XAMPP

Postby atty179 » 03. October 2016 16:21

hello, I am new to this forum.
I installed a long time the 1.7.7 version of XAMPP.
I would like to upgrade to the latest version of XAMPP to update the joomla version I installed.
It's possible to do it ?

Thank you

Xampp does not support upgrades.

The only way is uninstalling the old release and install the new release. Anyway, you are responsible for all data (i.e. MySQL Data etc.) of your applications, there is NO upgrade procedure.

you don't need worry, simple download the new version, then uninstall the old version; then install the new version and your good to go

The problem is not the installation process. The problem is the migration of installed webapplication of the old XAMPP environment.
We don't provide any support via personal channels like PM, email, Skype, TeamViewer!

Hello,

I recently upgraded from 1.7.x to 5.x.

You will need to:
- Backup your web site and data (also stop all XAMPP services and make a copy of the the entire XAMPP folder to a memory stick for safe keeping)
- Uninstall the older version of XAMPP
- Install the new version of XAMPP
- Restore your web site and data into the new platform.
- Test / Troubleshoot

HOWEVER, this is not a quick / simple exercise. There were several niggling problems that I didn't have the skills to resolve quickly. So, I found it very useful to install XAMPP 1.7.x onto a spare workstation (copy the entire XAMPP folder from the memory stick over the top of the workstation installation folder) and perform a test upgrade offline (leaving the original system up and running). Once you have sorted out all of the problems, you can be confident of reproducing this on your main system.
