XAMPP - change cgi-bin location virtual hosts

I have managed to set up some virtual hosts of the normal type and using the 1% syntax so that can have virual host accessible just by have that directory present and putting entry into hosts file then can access whatever.locahost no problem.

I have not been able to set up a separate a working cgi-bin within each virtual host directory. When I put the ScriptAlias line into the virtualhost config file
e.g. ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "C:/path/to/cgi-bin/"
Apache will then not restart. Nothing specific in error log as to why.

What is the correct way to set up cgi-bin for virtualhosts?

Any help appreciated.
