Look for help with Xampp

Postby kozma » 12. September 2016 00:57

Hello, I had a HD failure on a 20yr old server and am in the process of (trying to remember) rebuilding my server. I am using xampp v1.7.3. I have MYSQL and Filezilla running properly but am having some problems getting Apache to work right. I went thru the steps, got to the orange an dyellow xampp startup webpage, checked STATUS, fixed the security issues, Added/changed passwords. The problem is when I go to a browser on a different machine (in the same Network/Workgroup) and try to access the home page, it is remapping the URL. I am expecting http://www.kozradio.biz but am getting http://www.kozradio.biz/xampp and am prompted for a username/password. Since I know the username/PW I enter it and am presented with the "congratulations you have successfully installed Xampp" page the dir is kozradio.biz/xampp directory. In the xampp/apache/conf/httpd.conf file I have the settings:

ServerRoot "/xampp/apache"
ServerAdmin me@mydomain.com
ServerName mydomain.com:80
DocumentRoot "c:/xampp/htdocs"

I also tried -> DocumentRoot "/xampp/htdocs" but it still remaps to the xampp dir in the htdocs/xampp forectory.

I am to close to this and am obviously not seeing my error(s) and could use some help

Koz

I don't see any problems, looks like everything is working. Perhaps you don't see what is going on. The index.php in your root htdocs folder has a redirect in it. Open it up with a text editor and see what is in there.

Thanks for the reply. I renamed the index.php file to index.php.sav and copied my html/php and images to the directory yet it still wants a username and password like it is going to the mydomain.com/xampp directory. I had my son try to access the site from work and he is getting an error page saying he doesn't have access to the page, it can only be access from the local computer. Which is also telling me it is being redirected to the mydomain.com/xampp dir rather than just loading mydomain.com. If I manually type the url http://www.mydomain.com/xampp/index.html on a networked computer the website loads fine. if I try to get to it by using 192.168.1.x it remaps to the xamp dir. If it enter 192.168.1.x/xampp/index.html my site loads fine. Obviously I am missing something. Something probably obvious. At this point though, I am not able to see it. hopefully someone else will. :-)

Don't place your own website inside the \xampp\htdocs\xampp\ folder.
instead create your own subfolder in htdocs like \xampp\htdocs\webside\ and access it by URL http://localhost/webside/

I know my website doesn't go there. I put my files there because that is the only way I can access it at this point. I run my domain from a spare PC in my home. I had everything setup and running fine for almost 20yrs until the server HD reported it was going to die. I was running as http://www.kozradio.biz for all that time so I am assuming there is no reason it shouldn't be able to be setup the same way. Xampp seems to be pointing at kozradio.biz/xampp fo some reason even though I have removed (renamed) the index.php file that remaps to that dir.

JJ_Tagy already mentioned why all requests will be redirected. There is a file \xampp\htdocs\index.php. The redirect is fired by this file.
