install php_stats.dll fails

I ran pear.bat in php subdirectory
I downloaded and copied php_stats.dll to ..\php\ext
Edited php_ini to include extension=php_stats.dll
Stopped and restarted apache
On start I get a warning that the module cannot be found
What should I do next?
