how to move to php 5.6.x with XAMPP 7.0.5

Postby cagnaluia » 06. May 2016 08:11

Hello,

I know, XAMPP 7.0.5 comes with PHP7.x support.

I'm using it with Wordpress , but today I've figured out that osTicket doesn't support PHP7.x..

So I have no choice to downgrade to 5.6.x PHP version.
But I wouldn't to reinstall a different version of XAMPP because I'm worry about wordpress installation and mysql data stored.

Is there another way?
What do you suggest?

thx

Hi,

There are two possibilities:
1. install a second XAMPP version side by side to the first one (there are some disadvantages if you want to run them both simultaniously)
2. add a second PHP version with CGI or FCGI (but that would be much more complicated than reinstall to migrate to a lower PHP version)

Dumping and restoring a webapplication including it's database is a base knowledge task so maybe you should try to learn this earlier than later.

best wishes,

thx, ok.

I'll try to install mySQL and copy the data from mysql@xampp to the new standalone mysql.
I'll uninstall xampp 7 and reinstall xampp 5.x with only apache

I don't understand why you want to do that. Why a standalone MySQL installation?

Just my 2 cents.
mod_fcgid is a good way to go, you can run any number of PHP versions with a single xampp instalation. The various php versions can be configured per virtualhost, directory, per file or file extension.

Remember that php 5.6 is VC11 (2012) so you would need to install the VC11 redistributable also.
