Unable to Install XAMPP onto Windows 7

Hello,

I haven't installed XAMPP onto a computer in more than 10 years. I have downloaded the latest version and other versions available for download via the download area and all of them come up with an unknown file type for my computer. I have updated my visual studio C++ packages, but cannot think of anything that will allow my download to turn into an .exe file so that I may install the package.

The entire file name (including extensions) is: xampp-win32-7.0.3-1-VC14-installer[1]

Ok, mid typing this request for help I decided to try something. I simply renamed the file to include the .exe extension. *** xampp-win32-7.0.3-1-VC14-installer[1].exe ***

It seems to be working. If others run in tot his problem, it may be of help to them.

Thank you and sorry for the rookie post. Why wouldn't that be part of the file when downloaded though?

Download managers, antivirus, browsers, registry errors in shell settings, etc.
