xampp update/upgrade

Postby orangeworx » 27. January 2016 01:04

Hello there,
I've been running xampp for some time now and today I thought I'd check in see what's new and I found that I'm running an older version, namely 5.6.12 and the latest is 5.6.15... Since it seems only minor, is it a must that I update my installation? If so, how would I go about that? Is it a simply just an on top reinstallation or is there some kind of update package?
Also, I noticed the 7.x download, is that something that I should be concerned with at the moment or as it becomes the industry standard then it's another story?

Thanks

Never update a running system without any reason/need.

Installing a newer XAMPP version over another will very common corrupt your whole XAMPP environment.
There is no update package available foe XAMPP.
Updating XAMPP does always mean uninstall the old version and install the new version fresh, migrating all your needed data.

It is far away from being industry standard. The main hosters are mainly using PHP 5.5, some use PHP 5.6. PHP 7 support is in mostly all cases just for testing purposes.

@Altrea
Thank you for a very fast response! I really appreciate it.
Basically the "if it ain't broke..." applies here. I will not go through the back up/uninstall/reinstall/restore then

Thanks again!

What is the proper steps to update installed xampp to current stable version?
