xampp tomcat wont start

I have installed xampp 5.5.30 and tomcat fails to start. when I directly launch catalina_start.bat then tomcat runs.
I think the tomcat start button does not or fails to launch the catalina_start.bat file, is this correct?
Can anybody help me how to solve this problem?
