Accessing XamPP Site Over Lan

Postby krishhi » 09. December 2015 10:07

Hi There,

I am using XAMPP 5.6.8. I have created a HTML Website. I have given host name as helpdesk.online. It is working fine in the XAMPP Installed System. But, I am not able to open the website through LAN. I tried with IP Address, Local Host, Host Name. None worked.

I am getting "Server not found"

May be I missed some configuration or something. Can anyone please guide me.

Thank you in advance,

Best Regards,
Krishhi

Where and how did you provide that name?

localhost of course cannot work, but the LAN IP of Xampp PC should work and evtl. the hostname (where i need to know, how you applied that name). But the LAN IP should work anyway. There are three options to fail:

a) you apply the wrong LAN IP

b) you changed the default Apache from Port 80 to something else (if you did so, please tell us)

c) you have a firewall running on your Xampp PC which denies any access (this is a very common issue).

Thank you so much Nobbie for your reply,

where i need to know, how you applied that name

I changed the Hosts file like 121.0.0.1 helpdesk.online

a) you apply the wrong LAN IP

I used cmd prompt and typed ipconfig, there I got the IP Address.

b) you changed the default Apache from Port 80 to something else (if you did so, please tell us)

Yes, I have changed the Port to 1234 as I was getting some apache starting error.

c) you have a firewall running on your Xampp PC which denies any access (this is a very common issue).

Yes, It has firewall running. Is there way to get rid of this

If you do so, you have to do it at least on the client(!) PC. You may also do it on the Xampp PC, but the client is more important. And 121.0.0.1 must be replaced by the LAN IP of the Xampp PC.

If you do not use Port 80, you MUST apply the portnumber in the URL, like http://121.0.0.1:1234

It is your(!) firewall, not mine. Dont ask me! But first of all provide the port number (see above).
