I want my local mysql database to be the same than the database on my distant site. At the moment the distant site is in utf 8 and the local site is the standard installation of XAMPP 1.8.3, which comes in latin1.
I have tried to modify the my.ini file which is in the XAMPP/Mysql/bin folder and uncomment the lines "UTF8 settings". But that resulted in phpmyadmin refusing to read the data base because of errors.
What is the correct way to convert an XAMPP 1.8.3 installation to utf8 ?
