Windows 7 - 64 bit
XAMPP 5.5.3 - autoinstalled and can connect to phpmyadmin (but noticed I can't call up localhost/security).

Trying to install Joomla. It is hanging trying to install database tables. This is due - presumably - to the user name I am using. However when I try to create a new user in mysql I get the following:

#1065 - Query was empty

The selected user was not found in the privilege table.

Any suggestions please?

The issue is outdated and has been discussed in a different thread already (dont know where, it is too long ago). That was a problem of an old Phpmyadmin installation in conjunction with MariaDB and has been solved. Download and install a newer Xampp or at least a newer PhpMyAdmin.

Will installing a newer Xampp mess with my old user accounts and files?

Yes.

But only exchanging/updating PhpMyAdmin will not affect your files and accounts.
