Okay! Just installed on windows 8.1 and noticed a new dashboard with absolutely no function to XAMMP what so ever. No functions to anything no tools nothing

The phpMyAdmin configuration storage is not completely configured, some extended features have been deactivated. Find out why. Or alternately go to 'Operations' tab of any database to set it up there.

New XAMPP with PHP 5.5.27 & 5.6.11 versions

Hi Apache Friends!

We just released new versions of XAMPP for all platforms with the latest PHP versions: 5.5.27 and 5.6.11.

This version also ships the new XAMPP Dashboard where you can find useful guides for configuring your new XAMPP or for developing your PHP applications. We need your help to continue improving our new Dashboard! Please post any suggestions in our forum thread.

You can download new versions at http://www.apachefriends.org/download.html.

v5.5.27 / v5.6.11

New XAMPP dashboard
Updated PHP to 5.5.27 / 5.6.11
Updated MySQL to 5.6.25
Updated phpMyAdmin to 4.4.12
Updated OpenSSL to 1.0.1p (OSX and Linux)
Updated XDebug to 2.2.5

Enjoy!

NOTE: XAMPP portable versions are not available yet. We will upload to sourceforge.net XAMPP project once File Upload service will be available.

The thought to this is the latest release could have been better thought out with at least some function to. I am kinda at a loss on this one..

Aha.

Xampp is not a "clicky nicely game or whatever", but a collection of sophisticated software tools for people who know, what they are installing. It is not meant for clicking around and see, what happens.

The new dashboard probably has a bug in it. It doesn't have any functions except that it impedes going to another page. Whatever you type, it reverts to the @#$% dashboard. Just lost 2 hours trying to find a way around it but couldn't.
Where can I get a earlier version of XAMPP dthat doesn´t have this dashboard?

I can click on "PHPInfo" in the upper right corner and it leads to a PhpInfo page. What are you expecting?

You are waisting your time, simply enter http://localhost/phpmyadmin in your browser and it leads to PhpMyAdmin. There are no "functions" with Xampp, as it is a development environment for YOUR OWN software. Simply install your Scripts and start them in your browser.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/

But then you have an old Apache, MySQL, PHP etc.

I'm not sure when the assholes moved in on this forum, but let me enlighten you!

1. Previous versions of XAMPP both Linux & Windows had a configuration page when you first installed.
It has now been replaced with the dashboard, which has a loopback error, so no matter what page you
try to hit in your site-root, it will always revert back to yoursite/dashboard.

2. I'm not sure what you mean by:
Nobbie wrote:Aha.

because XAMPP has always been an easy way of installing these "sophisticated software tools" for people that DO NOT know how to set them each up individually, and link them all together.

3. If you can't provide a serious answer to some one's question, you'd be better if you just passed the thread by instead of trying to be a keyboard warrior and insulting people's intelligence. You obviously don't have much previous knowledge of XAMPP and it's version history, no matter how much you try to front.

Workaround: Go back 1 version, it's on the XAMPP downloads page. it works fine for now until the bugs can get fixed. Just keep an eye on the updates.

I don't think that the old orange XAMPP administration page did have so much more functionality.
Many of the features of the old administration page are buggy (status page, security page) or outdated (documentation).
They produce more problems then benefit and lead beginners to believe in security the pages cannot properly provide.
The helpers on this board don't recommend to use this old pages any more.

Yes, the new dashboard is not perfect for now. For example a link to phpmyadmin is missing.
But you have the chance to give feedback about missing functionalities to be added in future versions.
But just shouting that all was better with the past xampp administration page without mentioning what exactly is missing from your side of view does not make anything better.

Not for me. I just installed the latest Xampp release and it works flawlessly. I agree to Altrea, there *should* be a link to phpmyadmin, but it is not such a hassle simply to enter http://localhost/phpmyadmin instead. I am used to enter links in browsers. I also installed a large SMF Forum and everything works as expected.

K0D3R wrote:because XAMPP has always been an easy way of installing these "sophisticated software tools" for people that DO NOT know how to set them each up individually, and link them all together.

And thats what it still does. "Installing" a software and "using" a software is by far not the same thing. Xampp overtakes the part of "installing". Nothing else.

P.S.: As you can see, the opener of this thread ("codeuser") obviously also succeded to start phpmyadmin - this should be impossible due to the "loopback error" you mentioned here?!

the last version (5.6.11) has not a working page, the one before last is still working perfct (5.6.8) it has the functionality that you need down load it from :
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/XAMPP%20Windows/

I don't know what is the idea behind the new version but it cost me a couple of hour, thanks for that.

In the FAQ pages which you can reach from the Dashboard, you are still advised to go to http://127.0.0.1/ to check if everything is running fine and the old orange xampp pages are still displayed there as an example. In my opinion this should have been changed too.
I don't have time to check how to do the first steps in xampp without the orange xampp page so for now i referted back to release 5.6.8
Hope that in a next release the first steps will be corrected in a way that it is easy again to quickly setup xampp.
I don't like this new release for now :(

In that case you should not use Xampp, neither think about using Apache, MySQL, PHP etc., because it takes quiet a time to learn all these things.

rdekeijzer wrote:I don't like this new release for now :(

Therefore - dont use it.

Open your browser and request http://localhost/phpmyadmin/
Can you see the page and get logged in? Well then at least the most important components Apache, PHP and MySQL are running successful.
No need for any buggy status lights

Easy enough to add a new menu link in htdocs/dashboard/index.html after line 65 ----

<li class=""><a href="/applications.html">Applications</a></li>
<li class=""><a href="/dashboard/faq.html">FAQs</a></li>
<li class=""><a href="/dashboard/howto.html">HOW-TO Guides</a></li>
<li class=""><a target="_blank" href="/dashboard/phpinfo.php">PHPInfo</a></li>
<li class=""><a href="/phpmyadmin/">phpMyAdmin</a></li>
