Uninstalled Xampp

Postby PrintXpress » 20. July 2015 17:42

Hi There,

I'm struggling with what i hope is an easy fix.

Basically, I have been working on an xampp server and created a few websites locally.
Unfortunately xampp was uninstalled so I thought it would be a simple as to reinstall it back but unfortunately this xampp install isn't linking to the old files.

Is there anyway to install xampp and recreate the link between the existing files already on the system?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers
Anthony

Which old files do you mean?

You need to describe much more detailed what your problem is, otherwise noone here will be able to help you out.

best wishes,

So I installed Xampp and created 3 or so websites, this has all files on it htdocs, mysql, php, phpMyAdmin.
I'm talking about all files from install, but because xampp was uninstalled and then I reinstalled it there is now no link between the old xampp folder but all the files are still there but the new install isn't connected to it.

I hope you understand more clearly now?

Hi Anthony,

unfortunately i still don't understand how your environment has looked like before uninstallation and how it looks now. Please try to describe much much more in detail.

Where was XAMPP installed (full path)
Where is XAMPP installed now (full path)
Where was/are your website files and databases saved on your harddisk (full path)
How did you migrate your website files and database to the new environment

And what is your understanding of "connected to it"? How should it look like and why do you think is is not the same now?
I am confused because XAMPP does have more or less a very compact path structure. Every files needed (all your static files and databases) are saved inside a very top folder xampp. So if you uninstall xampp completely, the needed files can get deleted to.

To help you best we can we need as much information as possible, step by step what you done and expected if needed.

best wishes,
Altrea

Hi Altrea,

I installed XAMPP to my local disc drive F: > Xampp https://www.dropbox .com/sh/w2sar217y9fz8s8/AAAYp_EdllrZi9ZobTNmrqAja?dl=0 I have screenshot both xampp installs.
One name is Xampp which was my first install the second is on website.

I added the websites by adding wordpress files to xampp > htdocs > xampp then all the files of my wordpress then adding a database through localhost phpmyadmin.

by connected I mean I could access my sites & see all my files and databases on phpmyadmin.

if i can give you any other screen shots or anything else let me know.

Cheers

You have to copy at least the whole htdocs folder (c:/xampp/htdocs) and the whole MySQL Data folder (c:/xampp/mysql/data) from the old Xampp (where your Wordpress was running) to the new Xampp. If there is a too big release difference from old Xampp to new Xampp, this will not work properly for the MySQL Data, in that case you should install an older version of Xampp, if possible the same version as before (which all can be downloaded from Sourceforge).
