New to install process

Postby terrence.smith1 » 01. July 2015 23:32

Not clear on what to do to install after download.

Can someone point me to the documentation on what steps to follow?

exe: execute the exe and follow the instructions
zip and 7z: extract and execute the setup_xampp.bat

install xampp in the root directory of your hdd (C:\xampp for example) not in your program folder.

I understand installing it in "c:\xampp".

But, all I have is one file that was down loaded: xampp-win32-5.6.8-0-VC11-installer[1]. There is no other file.

So there nothing else no other file to execute an install. This part of my confusion.

I was expecting exe, bat or something.

Can you doubleclick the file? Did you activate hide known extensions in your windows explorer settings?

What type of extension should this file have?

No, I do not have the file extension hidden. I just double checked. I can see other file extension perfectly fine.

There is no file extension attached to the file that was downloaded.

Figured out that problem. I downloaded it again and it still gave me the same file without an extension.

So I finally read documentation telling me that it was "exe" file so I change the file to have an "exe' extension and it worked.

So now I have installed WordPress, but I keep missing something.

When I install WordPress, I am able to hit "http://127.0.0.1" it is pointing to my running WordPress Blog. But soon afterwards, it stopped working and I don't know how to get it running again.

Can you help me?

It stopped working is a very poor error description.
explain as detailed as possible what you are doing, which result you would expect and what you get instead

Figured out the problem.

I had not started the Apache Service.

It's running perfectly find. Now on to the more important things...like understanding how to manipulate the design areas of the page as I see fit.

I appreciate your quick responses.
