MySQL in XAMPP versus MySQL for Windows

Can I use the MySQL as installed with XAMPP as I would if I installed MySQL for Windows as a standalone application? Here is what I want to do:

I would like to learn more about MySQL and every book I look at starts off by telling me how to install MySQL and some of its utilities, such as MySQL Workbench on my Windows PC. What I am trying to figure out is whether I can just use the version of XAMPP already installed with XAMPP and still make use of the utilities such as Workbench and various others? If so, do I need to configure the utilities in any special way to have them communicate with the MySQL / XAMPP installation?

Or, would I be better off just installing the regular Windows version of MySQL and if I do that will it interfere in any way with my XAMPP installation?

YOU CAN USE ANY TOOL'S WITH MYSQL BUILT IN FROM XAMPP. FOR EXAMPLE : I'M INSTALL XAMPP AND THEN I'M INSTALLING WORKBENCH AND MYSQLFRONT, BUT I NEVER INSTALL MYSQL SERVICE AS STAND ALONE, I JUST USING MYSQL FROM XAMPP (BUILTIN).BECAUSE IF YOU HAS INSTALLED XAMPP (WITH MYSQL) AND THEN INSTALL MYSQL SERVICE AS STAND ALONE APPLICATION YOU WILL HAS A TROUBLE WITH THAT.
