Attempting to start Apache app...

Hello,

I installed xampp-win32-5.5.19-0-VC11-installer.exe on Windows XP SP3. I started the XAMPP Control Panel v3.2.1. I clicked on the Start button of the Apache module, and the following message was written:

[Apache] Attempting to start Apache app...

But no other message was written, and the background of the Apache label did not turn to green.

When I try to start D:\xampp\apache\bin\ApacheMonitor.exe I get the following error message:

D:\xampp\apache\bin\ApacheMonitor.exe is not a valid Win32 Application.

I am new to this. What can I do to get Apache started?

Best regards,

Alexandros

The problem is VC11, or rather XP. The Xampp package uses Apache compiled by the Apache Lounge. Apache Lounge's VC11 builds are not compatible with XP/2003. To be honest, I do not know of any VC11 compiled Apache available that is compatible with XP/2003.

Being that you're using a unsupported (by Microsoft) version of Windows, you're obviously not horribly concerned with security so try Xampp 1.8.2-6 built with VC9 and is compatible with XP/2003.

Thank you, I installed xampp-win32-1.8.2-6-VC9-installer.exe and I was able to start Apache and MySQL from the "XAMPP Control Panel v3.2.1".
