Hi guys, I'm new here and I want to try this XAMPP to host my small web page (http://bancuri-fun.ro/)
I have an old computer who runs Vista, and I want to ask if Vista its better then Linux for XAMPP?

Trying to start an OS war are you? :)

XAMPP is for development use, not for hosting outward facing websites. it's not secure enough for production use.

That said there are hundreds of thousands of websites out there running Apache on Windows including government, military, educational and commercial. They are just not necessarily using XAMPP.

Then what should I use?
I'm tired of the limitation and advertising from my host provider, and I want to try to host my webpage at home, and I was thinking that XAMPP is the best way to do it, if you have other suggestions I'm open :D

Well what all do you need? I'm pretty sure you just need Apache, PHP & Mysql for a Wordpress site.
You can obtain each of these separately, install and config. There's a good post on the Apache Lounge for just this.

Note that the Apache included in XAMPP is from the Apache Lounge.

Thanks gsmith, that is what I need.
I didn't know that I can get them separately, I will take a look on that links.

Cheers
