WordPress installer can't bind to ports

Postby THenrich » 12. January 2015 20:18

After installing XAMPP and running it I tried to install WordPress. The installer is complaining about being unable to bind to the existing web server and MySQL ports because they are in use. Yeah there are in use and I want WordPress to install itself and run using the existing stack. The installer wasn't clear what it's trying to do. I had to stop MySQL and Apache. So now, without looking deeper in this issue, I think the WordPress installer installed its own MySQL and web server... whic is NOT what I want.

The installer needs to be dead simple. If it finds an existing Apache and MySQL running, ask me whether to use those or install new instances instead of just complaining about ports because the next step implies it's going to install new instances if I enter new ports.
