Starting Apache etc as Services

Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Starting Apache etc as Services

Postby TonyWilliams » 01. January 2015 12:48

I've just downloaded the latets version of xampp and it appeared to install OK.

I wanted the modules to be run as services but when I click the services button as in the instructions, it opens the Windows Services screen. Also there are no red crosses against each module. Has something gone wrong with the installation?
I am a novice so please be gentle!
Thanks
Tony

I've just restarted the Control panel using Run as Administrator and the red crosses have appeared but when I click on Services the Windows services screen still opens?

I stopped the modules and then clicked the red boxes and got the message asking if I wanted to start the module as a service so I clicked yes. Apart from the Tomcat module where I get an error message in the Control Panel window that says "Service was NOT (un)installed!"

Anyone any ideas?
Thanks

I am having the same issues as Tony. Would love a solve. Tried going to the tomcat folder and clicking on uninstalling.bat which someone suggested would work - no luck. All other solutions seem very complicated for something that a lot of users are reporting. Latest version of Xampp and windows 7. All other services are running although I did not get a congratulations screen :(

Ok I have deinstalled malwarebytes. port 80 taken up by apache. Nothing on 8080 (using cports). Now when I click start tomcat is saying it is "attempting to install" and that "status change has been detected:running" But that red cross is still there. Help! Very frustrating for what was supposed to be a quick install.

Tomcat says it is running but that red cross will not go away. went to the local host http://localhost/xampp/ - control panel came up OK for 5.6.3. I guess that means all is well in the Xampp world just the buggy little red cross that won't go away. I imagine it will come back to bite me as I edit sites using wordpress.

Tomcat is not neccessary for WordPress. You only need Apache and MySQL.
We don't provide any support via personal channels like PM, email, Skype, TeamViewer!

It's like porn for programmers 8)
