Database slow

(Excuse me, am French overpowering poor English)
My site is still in joomla 5.2.27 and wanting to prepare for Joomla 3.xx, I wanted first to change my localhost server on my PC. I have used with satisfaction xampp 1.7. 3 (MySQL 5.1.41 and phpMyAdmin 3.2.4).
So I installed xampp 1.8.3-5, after having successfully removed version 1.7.
Everything works effectively. I can reach correctly phpMyAdmin. But when I start the server the site is slow to reach the database making it virtually impossible to work.
There it done a few things I forgot ?? thank you
