Installed, Control Panel works, but can't get to Admin

Sorry folks, I'm sure I must be doing something wrong since there's no shortage of people that insist they installed this program without any issues. But I can't for the life of me figure out where my install is going wrong. Here's what's happening:

Installed using xampp-win32-1.8.3-4-VC11-installer.exe (used "Run as administrator")
- Used all default settings, including installing to root (C:\xampp)
Once installed, ran xampp-control.exe (using "Run as administrator")
Clicked Start for Apache, MySql, and get green lights, and the log in the control panel shows the following:
3:49:17 PM [main] Initializing Control Panel
3:49:17 PM [main] Windows Version: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
3:49:17 PM [main] XAMPP Version: 1.8.3
3:49:17 PM [main] Control Panel Version: 3.2.1 [ Compiled: May 7th 2013 ]
3:49:17 PM [main] Running with Administrator rights - good!
3:49:17 PM [main] XAMPP Installation Directory: "c:\xampp\"
3:49:17 PM [main] Checking for prerequisites
3:49:17 PM [main] All prerequisites found
3:49:17 PM [main] Initializing Modules
3:49:17 PM [main] Starting Check-Timer
3:49:17 PM [main] Control Panel Ready
3:49:21 PM [Apache] Attempting to start Apache app...
3:49:21 PM [Apache] Status change detected: running
3:49:24 PM [mysql] Attempting to start MySQL app...
3:49:24 PM [mysql] Status change detected: running

But when I click the Admin button on the Control Panel, Firefox opens up and the status bar at the bottom of the browser window says "Waiting for localhost..." and never resolves. Did I miss a step? Any troubleshooting ideas are much appreciated.

NVM, I continued searching the forums and found one that addressed my same problem (spoiler alert: this was a problem with winsock) :-)
