[solved]php not parsing php files (i think)

Postby slippycurb » 07. July 2014 15:49

Greetings fellow travellers...
Im having trouble trying to get a wordpress environment setup on my laptop as localhost.
some information for you before I start>>>>
xampp-win32-1.8.3-4-VC11.zip (thats the zip version there)
extracted to C:\xampp
windows 8
ive not made any changes to any xampp confs.
i have downloaded the latest wordpress so it looks like C:\xampp\wordpress
i have run test_php.bat and the output says everything is okay
[SUCCESS]: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package
[SUCCESS]: Test for the php.exe successfully passed. Good!
logs are zipped up here >>> https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4rl4YhVYR10QkhCMllxTzFUa0E/edit?usp=sharing
the xampp control panel informs me that services (apache & mysql) are installed and started, and i can reach the myphpadmin webpage.

my problem is that whenever i try to open a *.php file (using a http://localhost/wordpress/wp-config.php for instance) i get an error 404.....I dont think this is a wordpress issue as i can not open any php file, even test.php in the xampp directory.
I have created a database and user as per the wordpress install instructions and edited wp-config.php with the details>>http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

i am at a bit of a loss here.....any help is apreciated....Tris
