not running xampp as an administrator message

Postby notacodetalker » 05. July 2014 00:34

Happy July 4th:
I've been working for a couple of hours to get a local testing site up on a newer computer. I previously used the IIP method, but thought about trying xampp. Install went fine. (I later went online to view a video to make sure). Got a message telling me the program was not as an administrator. So I searched the friends site and read that I should right click the xampp icon and select run as administrator. I do not seem to be able to do that.

Also, checked my Norton's firewall and allowed two files that were suggested in a different post on the friends site.

The stream below suggested that a port 80 was being used by PID 4 ( which I determined was a system port) so I changed the port for apache to 8080 as was suggested in a friend post. However, that does not seem to work either.

Your help would be much appreciated!

I was able to find the correct file to edit via a Lynda.com tutorial and edited the two references to 80 to 8080. However that left me unable to open tomcat. The relevant massage is Attempting to start Apache app...
5:52:50 PM [Apache] Status change detected: running
5:53:26 PM [mysql] Attempting to start MySQL app...
5:53:27 PM [mysql] Status change detected: running

5:53:31 PM [filezilla] Status change detected: running
5:53:37 PM [mercury] Attempting to start Mercury app...
5:53:38 PM [mercury] Status change detected: running
5:53:44 PM [Tomcat] Problem detected!
5:53:44 PM [Tomcat] Port 8080 in use by "c:\xampp\apache\bin\httpd.exe"!
5:53:44 PM [Tomcat] Tomcat WILL NOT start without the configured ports free!
5:53:44 PM [Tomcat] You need to uninstall/disable/reconfigure the blocking application
5:53:44 PM [Tomcat] or reconfigure Tomcat and the Control Panel to listen on a different port
5:53:44 PM [Tomcat] Attempting to start Tomcat app...

What port number should I use for Tomcat and which file do I edit?
Thanks.
