Local WordPress Running Slow - Possible mysqld Memory Issue?

ApacheFriends XAMPP Version 1.8.3

Hi all,

I recently started using XAMPP to run a local installation of WordPress on my Windows 7 PC.

However, it runs very slow and is barely usable.

If I look at the Windows Task Manager, mysqld.exe is hitting about 436,000 K for memory.

Could this be the problem?

If so any ideas what I can do?
