new Xampp install and cakephp/mysql too slow

I have just installed xampp and tested everything appears to be installed and working .
I made some cakephp files/website which worked perfectly in easyPHP but the same files work too slowly with xampp.
What happens is that when I am accessing records from mysql it is taking about 20-30 sec before the page displays.
I dont get any error but the time factor makes my xampp unacceptable to use.
I really like xampp but I have no idea what to do. I tried turning off my avast and zonealarm to no avail.
I am stuck for help as this is a xamp/mysql issue
