This is unusual. I can't install either the exe or open the zip for the XAMPP install.

Explorer hangs if I click the exe version, while the zip version says "The Compressed zipped Folder 'T:\xampp-portable-win32-1.8.3-3-VC11.zip' is invalid, which I doubt.

I'm running Windows 8.1 Update on an x64 PC. However, I tried running the zip on a Win 7 32-bit machine and received a similar message.

Same problem with me. Either on W8 or W7 the installation hangs and the installation proces can't be killed bij the taskmanager.

I've installed WAMP without problems. I've always found XAMPP to be simple to use but if I can't install it then I have to try another implementation.

Same problem too on Windows 8.1, installer just hangs and freezes up Windows Explorer.

This occurs with xampp-win32-1.8.3-4-VC11-installer and xampp-win32-1.8.2-5-VC9-installer too

Also tried xampp-win32-1.8.3-3-VC11-installer and no dice with that one either, same deal again just freezes up windows file explorer.

So basically, XAMPP can't be used on Windows 7 64-bit. Is that right? So basically... I can't do PHP, huh?

Incorrect. It works very well on Win7 x64.
