Similar issue.

I installed as admin but log shows
10:58:15 AM [main] Initializing Control Panel
10:58:15 AM [main] Windows Version: Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit
10:58:15 AM [main] XAMPP Version: 1.8.3
10:58:15 AM [main] Control Panel Version: 3.2.1 [ Compiled: May 7th 2013 ]
10:58:15 AM [main] You are not running with administrator rights! This will work for
10:58:15 AM [main] most application stuff but whenever you do something with services
10:58:15 AM [main] there will be a security dialogue or things will break! So think
10:58:15 AM [main] about running this application with administrator rights!

Meanwhile, I'm getting a port error without telling me the conflict. Based on this thread, it may be Skype. First question: Why should I change Skype? I use it more frequently and have had it much longer. I see the httpd.conf file has a "listen 80" line. Any other port suggested for use? Also, is there any other place it needs to be changed?

[EDIT by Altrea: splitted from original thread because unrelated]

But not the same. You should make your own thread instead of tagging onto someone else's thread.

Admin rights is not the same as the administrator. You should read about UAC.

ithinktfiam wrote:First question: Why should I change Skype?

Better question is "Why does Skype need port 80?" Answer is to piggyback on allowed ports when you can't use any other port. If you own the network, you can pick any port you want. The default port for http is 80.

I don't recommend changing it at all. I recommend picking a new port for Skype.

You would need to change it in your control panel and every time you type the web address in the browser.
