XAMPP Control Panel v3.2.1 Problem

Postby mysorian » 22. December 2013 03:13

I used XAMPP couple of years ago and I never faced a problem.
http://hodentek.blogspot.com/2009/06/cr ... mysql.html
I installed XAMPP using this zip file: xampp-win32-1.8.3-2-VC11
on Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) laptop.
When I tried to start apache from XAMPP control panel (version 1.8.3) it complained that my ports were not properly configured. I stopped my IIS and even changed the apache port to 85 (ServerName Port=85) and changed the portin XAMPP Control Panel as well. Also Port 443 (I think was being used by Skype) and I stopped the service. Now when I click start Apache in the control panel, it gives the message it is attempting to start and hangs.

here is the timeline from the control panel. The logs file are empty.

I just want to use apache and MySQL. Looks like MySQL of MariaDB is hindering MySQL, I will go back to it after I get Apache working. Any help will be appreciated.

Never seen this syntax, the Apache Port is not configured by a "Servername Port=..." command, but by a LISTEN command.

Ouch, this is quite ugly. Why did you install Xampp into your desktop?? It is recommended to be installed to c:\xampp

Last not least, dont change the Apache Ports (neither Tomcat), instead change Skype etc. to use different Ports. And first of all: try to clean up your PC. You have a bunch of software collisions due to overinstalled PC, Skype and Microsoft IIS collides with Apache, MariaDB collides with MySQL, Oracle collides with Tomcat and so on - this is really annoying and you should change this FIRST OF ALL!

Thanks a lot. Agreed, I have lot of baggage. In 2007 or 2009 (I am not sure) I had similar baggage on the computer with fewer resources and XAMPP installed without any problem.

Before I revisited this forum, I realized that
1. The directory I chose was not good. Changed it to C:\
2. I changed the Listen to a new value
3. Stopped Skype
4. Stopped IIS to listen on 80
5. stopped MariaDB in the Services Panel (BTW, I see a Apache service there, is it a Windows service independent of XAMPP control panel?)

Actually the computer has lot more programs than indicated but I am trying to see if I can still handle this which will demonstrate the robustness and flexibility.

As a last resort I may install another partition.

The file name of XAMPP seems to indicate there may be a x64 version?
is there?

No, there isn't.
We don't provide any support via personal channels like PM, email, Skype, TeamViewer!

It's like porn for programmers 8)

the problem is with control panel(i think so), when i try to activate apache it gives me attempt...
(the same as yours), try to start Apache from xampp_start.exe instead of Control Panel.
To stop it, it says start xampp_stop.exe. Like that I dont have a problem with apache,
but if u use something else like MySQL you need to start start it from Control Panel or
find it in "\xampp"
