Apache service not starting

Postby XampWilliam » 10. December 2013 13:01

Hi guys, I have downloaded the latest xamp version and I can't get the Apache service to start. I have tried changing the ports but it still does not work. My Sql starts fine.

Here are the logs:

01:54:05 PM [Apache] Error: Apache shutdown unexpectedly.
01:54:05 PM [Apache] This may be due to a blocked port, missing dependencies,
01:54:05 PM [Apache] improper privileges, a crash, or a shutdown by another method.
01:54:05 PM [Apache] Press the Logs button to view error logs and check
01:54:05 PM [Apache] the Windows Event Viewer for more clues
01:54:05 PM [Apache] If you need more help, copy and post this
01:54:05 PM [Apache] entire log window on the forums

This is quite urgent and a speedy reply will be much appreciated. Thanks in advanced

What do you mean by "full log and Output from Xampp Control Panel."? For some reason

You did not show us "everything", but only a part. We need to know everything.

Go for the Apache Error Log and paste the contents here. As well show us the Xampp Control Panel (Screenshot if possible).

The error log is empty for some reason.. I have been looking into it and it seems my event viewer is "unavailable" and I cannot seem to start it in services.msc. It gives me this error "windows could not start the windows event log service on local computer error 4201" I am guessing it is empty because it utilizes windows event viewer framework?

I have just noticed that it gives an error about port 443 - Which is actually only under the SSL port in xamp. What do I do?

Are you kind of superblind??

The screenshot tells you the problem as precisely as possible:

...
Problem detected!
Port 443 in use by "C:\Program Files(x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" with PID 3196"
Apache WILL NOT start without the configured ports free!
You need to uninstall/disable/reconfigure the blocking application
or reconfigure Apache and the Control Panel to listen to a different port

What is so hard to understand in this superclear message?

If your event log and services window are having such problems I guess your entire system has problems and xampp is just an side effect.

Nah i am not actually superblind. As I said I have changed the port with the same error. I did not change the SSL port. But do not know which port to use for that as it operates on port 443. I'm not an idiot thanks.

Why do so many people think they have to change common default ports if Skype captured them?
Is Skype a HTTP Daemon? No!
Is Skype a HTTPS Daemon? No!

So: stop Skype capturing these ports.
At this forum are enough posts explaining how to do so.

Simpy change Skype not to use these Ports (there is an extra option in the configuration menu - if you can see it....).
