XAMP Object not found! Error 404

Hello everyone.
My name is Kehinde, i have just started today learning PHP and MySQL using the book PHP and MySQL 24 Hour Trainer, seems like a really good book.
I am right at the beginning of the book, were you learn to install XAMP for windows
I got the ZIP version of XAMP for Windows; XAMP 1.8.2.
In the book i was instructed to start the APACHE and SQL and then go to my browser and input on the address bar; http://localhost/xamp
but, it gives me the message:
"Object not found!

The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

What do you think could be wrong and what can i do to fix this
