Hello,
PID 4 is typically the System process which probably means a Windows Service is using Port 80. A typical blocking service is World Wide Web Publishing Service. This is related to IIS and can be disabled if you are not using IIS.

Ok, I figured out how to disable IIS and my XAMPP control panel starts normally with no errors. But, when I try to start apache, all hell breaks loose. I get all kinds of errors and then the whole thing shuts down and the program exits as seen from this screen shot.
BTW I'm using CP v3.2.1 now. And I no longer receive any errors, however, when I try to start Apache, it just sits there attempting and never starts.
P.S. I'm running windows 7 and IIs is removed now but still can't get apache to start.

Hello,
A few things to give us a bit more information:
1. Could you post the entire contents of your XAMPP Control Panel log window?
2. Could you try running "apache_start.bat" in the main XAMPP folder and post any errors that it displays?

The window where you got these messages from
00:34:18 [Apache] This may be due to a blocked port, missing dependencies,
00:34:18 [Apache] improper privileges, a crash, or a shutdown by another method.
00:34:18 [Apache] Check the "/xampp/apache/logs/error.log" file
00:34:18 [Apache] and the Windows Event Viewer for more clues
contains much more messages then this few ones. These messages are needed.
