no option to upgrade from v1.8.1

Postby hanzi » 02. July 2013 11:11

Hi

when I run xampp-win32-1.8.2-0-VC9-installer.exe I have no option to upgrade from v1.8.1, the installer complains that c:\xampp is not empty.
This is the first time I can not upgarde, is this a good idea "Method B: "Installation" without the Installer" ?

thx to all memebers for the excelent job

Hi hanzi,

There was no official upgrade package for XAMPP for Windows since XAMPP 1.7.4 (a developer has changed).
So every XAMPP release since XAMPP 1.7.4 was a "fresh installation only / uninstallation first" package.
We have many many many threads here at the board about issues occuring after overinstalling on previous XAMPP files.

If you have never had problems with that versions you are very lucky.

best wishes,
Altrea

thx for the informations

So I was lucky, because since xampp-win32-1.7.7-VC9-installer.exe I always run the installer.exe
As mentioned here: "http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html#1175"

Now I try my luck as you recomend...

These two sentences are very clear I think:
With a new XAMPP version, there is normally a upgrade package too.
[...]
Especially if a new XAMPP have a lot of changes compared to the old one, we are providing no upgrade package for security reasons.
