From my Xampp control panel, the admin button for mysql doesn't work. When I installed xampp, it told me that I had access the application from the root directory. i obvioulsy have something configured wrong. Any guesses?

The Control Panel exe file should be in the root xampp installation directory. You cannot run it from arbitrary locations.

Could you post the contents of the XAMPP Control Panel log window?

Also, the mysql admin button launches 'http://localhost/phpmyadmin' so you need to have apache running also.
