local host error message

I've tried to set up a local testing server and I'm having several issues:

1. Xampp Mysql admin button on the control panel is inactive.
2. When I try to go through myphpadmin through apache I get the following error:

I don't understand what is going on at all, and I'm a novice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
