Forcing URL to Wiki instead of New Xampp Security Concept

Postby Capt_Frodo » 31. January 2013 01:44

Running XAMPP portable 1.8.1
Running XAMPP Control Panel 3.0.1 Beta 4
Running Windows 7

Installed XAMPP and then Mediawiki.

XAMPP is in folder XAMPP and Mediawiki is in XAMPP/htdocs/wiki

I opened a pinhole so that my son can access my developing wiki from the internet.

This a a example IP only.

if He enters http://93.116.3.2/wiki he gets my Mediawiki site. This is the desired state.

if he enters http://93.116.3.2 he gets the Access forbidden! New XAMPP security concept: Page

What can I change to make him be redirected to the wiki folder when he forgets to add it to the end of the URL?

I am hoping that this is just an Apache config issue.

Thanks for helping out a rookie.

Hi Capt_Frodo,

A short salutation is an act of politeness. Even if the internet is an virtual area, there is always a human being behind the screen. A polite beginning helps to get polite answers too. Please keep that in mind if you start a new thread.

The easy way would be to modify your \xampp\htdocs\index.php file. This file contains already a redirect to your \xampp\htdocs\xampp\ folder which you can change to your wiki folder. This will affect your own requests too so that you have to add /xampp/ to your url too if you want to access the orange XAMPP administration page.

The other possibility would be to create the redirect based on the $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] value so that you can distinguish if the request goes for localhost or an ip.

best wishes,
Altrea

I do appologize for the curt problem description. IRL I am a senior citizen and was not aware of the socialble aspect of the Forum. This is all so new to me that I am surprised I got far emough to get XAMPP and Mediawiki installed and running with a functioning pin hole. My son has been alot of help. Now I get to thank you for your assistance. After reading and studying the index.php in the XAMPP/htdocs folder I feel that I can make the change that I would like.

Again, thank you for your assistance and also helping me be a more polite forum user.
