Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Not online

Postby coolcatkelso » 05. January 2013 14:00

Hi guys

Have xampp and everything was looking but I can't access publicly since setting up as virtual host for 2 sites?

Can access both sites on local server but not outside network?

Couple things to check:
Are you using something like mysite1.com and mysite2.com? Are they registered domains? How does an external computer know what IP address to go to? Did you forward your ports on your router?

wow quick respone, cheers lol

Yes port 80 is forwarded through BT hub 3, no issues with that,

I am using no-ip

Here is the part from virtual hosts

Code: Select all
NameVirtualHost *:80

#
# VirtualHost example:
# Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container.
# The first VirtualHost section is used for all requests that do not
# match a ServerName or ServerAlias in any <VirtualHost> block.
#
<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerAdmin postmaster@dummy-host.localhost
    DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs/"
    ServerName ridgeservices.no-ip.info
    ServerAlias http://ridgeservices.no-ip.info
    ErrorLog "logs/dummy-host.localhost-error.log"
   CustomLog "logs/dummy-host.localhost-access.log" combined
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerAdmin postmaster@dummy-host2.localhost
    DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs/fish"
    ServerName kelsofish.no-ip.info
    ServerAlias http://kelsofish.no-ip.info
    ErrorLog "logs/dummy-host2.localhost-error.log"
    CustomLog "logs/dummy-host2.localhost-access.log" combined
</VirtualHost>

Within the HTDocs folder site1 (ridgeservice) is just within the htdocs root and site 2 (kelsofish) is /xampp/htdocs/fish

as i said, Ridgeservices (main site) was working perfectly until I added to the virtual host for a second site, could access through local and public but since the change can only acces through local / network

not sure if you need it but here is the httpd.conf file

Code: Select all
#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file.  It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "C:/xampp/apache" will be interpreted by the
# server as "C:/xampp/apache/logs/foo.log".
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which httpd.exe is located
# will be used by default.  It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path.  If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk.  If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "C:/xampp/apache"

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 0.0.0.0:80
#Listen [::]:80
Listen 80

# Default charset UTF8
# AddDefaultCharset utf-8

I recommend having a separate folder for each site rather than nesting. Also, did you see a syntax difference in your vhost declaration? Not at a computer now to look but the missing / may cause a problem.

Hi

Yes I will put in separate folders within htdocs also helps keeping things neat and tidy.

Missing / ?

Just thought I would something different, instead of using my ipad with wifi to button to test, I switched off my wifi access with my mobile and used O2 data Internet and the sites were available.

If anyone is at a pc could they check http://ridgeservices.no-ip.info and http://kelsofish.no-ip.info and report back?
