Just tried installing XAMPP 1.8.1 on a USB memory stick on a system running WINXP Pro SP3 and keep getting the following error:-
httpd.exe - Application erroe
The exception unknown software exception (0xc00000fd) occurred....

I did install the MS C++ RunTime stuff and have made no changes to the installation. I assume that it is all meant to work out of the box so I guess its clashing with something running on my PC?

Any ideas?

Hello,

Could you open a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd), browse to your /xampp directory, run the 'apache_start.bat' and post any errors it dumps out.

Also, providing the XAMPP Control Panel log window output would be helpful

I have just installed XAMPP V1.7.3 and it appears to be working fine.
