phpmyadmin - sql no conection

Hello all,

I am a beginner, have installled XAMPP 1.8.1 onto a vista 32 bit system and I keep having a problem with the SQL DB

Have reinstalled - just in case however this has not resolved the problem?

It will not run from control pannel and via local host myphpadmin i get the following error -

MySQL said:
#2002 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

The server is not responding (or the local server's socket is not correctly configured).

I am rather proud of myself

I read thru the info and thought about it over nite and this morning I decided to uninstall mysql and reinstall just this component and it worked

Could you explain what you did? I ask because I am unaware of how to 'uninstall' just one component of XAMPP.
