Could somebody guide me on how to configure XAMPP 1.8.1 (localhost) to send emails through SMTP?

XAMPP actually can't send e-mails, XAMPP is a suite of applications/services.

Now PHP or Perl or an HTML form - they can send e-mail.

What application or script do you want to send e-mails from?
