I have tested the installation of both current Joomla versions v2.5.7 and v3.0.0 with XAMPP and both was successful.

Please describe as detailed as possible, what you have done inclusive those informations:

• Which XAMPP version do you choose?
  
  • XAMPP full or XAMPP portable?
  • Installer, .zip or .7z version?

[*]In which directory have you installed XAMPP?
[*]If not choosen the installer version, have you executed the setup_xampp.bat script?
[*]Have you done any configuration changes?
[*]Which joomla version do you choose?
[*]in which directory do you have extracted joomla?
[*]What is the contents of your \xampp\apache\logs\error.log?[/list]
