Can't login intro phpmyadmin after updating to xampp 1.8.0

Hi.

After "updating" to 1.8.0
I restored the data folder from mysql.
The databases are working and SQL is running, sites can access and add data.

But I just wanted to add a new database using phpmyadmin
but can't login.

I just updated the phpmyadmin config from the old one and get two errors.
One that it can't login and that it can't use the controluser.

I also can't use root because there is not root account.
So I hope someone can help me get it back up and running.

I'm running 1.8.0 on windows 2003 server

Hello Richard -

You probably better describe what "you" mean by 'updating'.

It would also be useful to know the version of XAMPP you were using before, that will tell us the MySQL version.

I installed 1.8.0 (clean) and updated the configs to match the old once as close as possible.
And I override the data folder in mySQL.

I was using XAMPP 1.7.7 before that.

Well - that method apparently doesn't work properly.

The 'proper way' to migrate MySQL databases is outlined in the "how to Upgrade' Sticky on this XAMPP for Windows board- Export user-defined databases, install, import into new install.

Please tell me why you think there isn't any root account? (I'm not sure right now if its fixable until I do a bit of research)

Yes, I read that yesterday...
I'm hoping to fixit without having to rollback everything.
Making a new backup, export the SQL, save the pass and be offline for some time.
So I hope someone can help.

I renamed the root account.

You might also try opening your "/xampp/mysql/bin/my.ini" file, and finding this line:

#bind-address="127.0.0.1"

, remove the "#" in front of it, save the file, and restart MySQL. When you visit the phpMyAdmin page http://localhost/phpmyadmin make sure you manually refresh the page in your browser so you do not get a cached error page.

Also, you should still be able to use the renamed root account given you know the password. It is still a 'root' account assuming you did not strip any permissions.
