:D First some required information:
XAMPP Version 1.8.0
XAMPP Control Panel Version 3
Windows 7 Home Edition (32)

Steps I took leading to my present state:
I installed XAMPP
Was able to view http:/localhost no problem
Went to http://localhost/security and created .htaccess password, and updated my mySQL root user password
Stopped Apache service
Configured XAMPP so that I could create subdomains following these instructions: http://www.codingcereal.com/2011/05/setting-up-multiple-subdomains-in-your-localhost-using-xampp/
Re-Started Apache service
Was able to view my new subdomain just fine: http:/newsubdomain.localhost.com
Stopped Apache service
Edited my php.ini file to activate curl
Re-Started Apache service

At this point is where the fun begins.. Apache will either start, then stop on it's own or it simply will not start. Of course because of this, I am not longer able to view my localhost or any of my new subdomains.

I am stumped.. :? Hope the kind folks here can help.. :D

Hi DivaVocals,

I was able to activate curl with XAMPP 1.8.0 without any problems.
So we need some more information to know, what is going on there.

What is in the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log ?
What is in the \xampp\php\logs\php_error_log ?
What is in your Windows Event log (Application) ?

best wishes,
Altrea

Thanks for the response.. I ended up re-installing XAMPP from scratch only to find out that I was STILL unable to get Apache, FileZillaFTP, or mySQL to start.. So I wiped everything out one more time and decided to start over with a clean XAMPP install.. the result of this install is as follows:

I deleted EVERYTHING manually.. I then ran the Windows uninstall.. I re-installed XAMPP again.

Started the control panel, and got no joy starting any of the services:
7:27:36 PM [main] Running with Administrator rights - good!
7:27:36 PM [main] XAMPP Installation Directory: "w:\xampp\"
7:27:36 PM [main] Initializing Modules
7:27:36 PM [main] Starting Check-Timer
7:27:36 PM [main] Control Panel Ready
7:28:16 PM [apache] Starting apache service...
7:29:37 PM [mysql] Starting mysql service...
7:29:41 PM [filezilla] Starting FileZilla service...

No error logs, no Windows application event logs, NOTHING...

I saw that Apache, FileZillaFTP, and mySQL were still installed as services (I think this was a carry over from my second install attempt).. So I uninstalled the Apache, FileZillaFTP, and mySQL services and then tried again to start Apache, FileZillaFTP, and mySQL again..

Dammed if it didn't all work.. I've enabled CURL, setup my sub-domains, and all is right with the world..

For the sake of FULL disclosure, I am installing XAMPP to a shared network drive (shared drive is on my WHS machine)
Windows Version: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit (correction from my earlier post)
XAMPP Version: 1.8.0
Control Panel Version: 3.0.12
