Installed Xampp Fine -- Issue with xenForo [Answered]

Postby JacquiiDesigns » 18. July 2012 23:07

Hello guys and thanks so much for Xampp - It's one awesome application and has helped so much over the years.

So - I've just upgraded to XAMPP version 1.7.7 and everythings seems to work fine. I can connect to the server. I've installed a few test applications which work fine, however, I'm having an issue with my xenForo test install. It seems that not all functionality of the software (xenForo) works. There seems to be an issue with javascript or some such. I'm not sure.

But you can see functionality of how xenForo is supposed to work at http://xenforo.com/community/ by clicking the upper-righthand corner "Log in or Sign up" button. There's a javascript dropdown of sorts.

In Xampp 1.7.7 - I seem to be missing such functionality. In fact - it seems as if no javascript is working at all. When I click the "Log in or Sign up" button on my test install - another page immediately opens, instead of the dropdown like at xenforo.com

Here's xenforo requirements:

XenForo System Requirements
  • PHP: 5.2.4+
  • MySQL: 5.0+
  • PHP extensions: MySQLi, GD (with JPEG support), PCRE, SPL, SimpleXML, DOM, JSON, iconv, ctype
  • PHP safe_mode off

So I downloaded the script located at http://xenforo.com/purchase/ and the script says the xampp server meets its requirements. So why the issues with certain functionality not working???

Perhaps I need to enable one or more of the php extensions listed above? IDK

Hopefully someone can assist with this, as I'm looking forward to testing all of xenForo's functionality via my xampp install.

Thanks!

Hi JacquiiDesigns,

XenForo is a commercial product and because you have this problem with this one application only, the correct board to ask the question would be the XenForo community board.
I think you will agree, that we can't provide support for any third party script, especially not commercial ones.

best wishes,
Altrea

Well - I cannot verify if xenforo is the only application with the issue in xampp, as I deleted most all other applications when upgrading to 1.7.7
I'll try to get my vBulletin install back online and see if there's any issues with it, but imo - xenforo is a premium application with much more sophisticated code than the vBulletin 3.8.x board I'd installed locally. So I just assumed that this was the reason.

Can you tell me please if all the extensions listed in the original post are supported by xampp? Perhaps I'd need to enable the extensions?

Anyway - Much appreciation for your response Altrea :)

oh. btw... I've xenForo installed on my server as well and there's no issues ==> another reason why I simply assumed the issue is with xampp ;)

You can check that very easy on your own, if you run http://localhost/xampp/phpinfo.php

Let me tell you one simple reason why the answer can only be given by the XenForo Support:
JacquiiDesigns wrote:XenForo System Requirements

  • ...

How should i know, if the XenForo Developers have tested their code only with the 5.2.X branch or with 5.3.X Branch too?
The differences between these two branches are very big. It was kind of major release not just a minor update like the version jump shows.
The same reason with MySQL, MySQL 5.5 was a major release in comparison with MySQL 5.0 and 5.1.

We can't provide any support for third party scripts. You have paid a lot of money for that script so ask their support. Simple as it is.
