[EDIT by Altrea: moved from this post in the german only forum]

I have the same problem. Just installed the latest XAMPP version. from the control panel I can start Apache and Filezilla, but not MySql. I followed your suggestion to start xampp-control-3-beta.exe and to see in the error log what is going wrong. These are the last lines in the error report:

120711 14:17:48 [Note] Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled.
120711 14:17:48 InnoDB: The InnoDB memory heap is disabled

120711 14:17:49 [ERROR] Fatal error: Can't open and lock privilege tables: Incorrect key file for table 'user'; try to repair it

Apparently it has something to do with the privilages. But I have no idea how to repair that. I am the only user on this recently bought laptop which runs under Windows 7 Home

Can you help me?

Is this a 'brand-new' unaltered XAMPP installation AND you have never had MySQL previously installed?

IF so - My guess is you have a corrupt install.

Stop any parts of XAMPP that are running

If you made Apache, MySQL or Filezilla services - remove them as services with the Control Panel. (uncheck the green checkbox) you will have to do it one at a time.

Did you use the installer version?

IF so - use the Windows Control Panel - to un-install the installer, then delete the xampp folder.

If you used a 7z or ZIP DL, just delete the XAMPP folder

Next, DL a fresh XAMPP distribution picking either the 7z or ZIP versions, and check the MDD5 checksums when done.

Expand the Archive and copy it to the install location (preferably the root of a drive)

Start XAMPP with either the Control Panel or xampp_start.exe.

Good Luck
