remote connection from xp to windows 7

I can connect from windows 7 to xp. but not the other way around. changed httpd conf. on both pc (Listen to each other's IP address and Allow from all). also changed hosts file(added each other's ip). like I said, I can connect remotely from the windows 7 pc to xp laptop but not from the xp laptop to windows 7 pc.. i dont want to change the OS of the desktop or letting the laptop be the server. any suggestions?

I'm afraid I'm a bit lost - do you have XAMPP installed on both machines?

Yes I do have XAMPP installed on both machines.
